If travelling to a centre doesn’t suit your schedule, the home-based webcam exam is available every week. You sit the 2382-26 paper from home — or from your workplace — fully invigilated online by City & Guilds. You need a reliable internet connection, a webcam, a quiet room and your copy of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026.
The standard and rigour are exactly the same as a centre-based sitting. Results come through typically the same day. The home exam is the most popular option for electricians who want to avoid travel and sit around their working week.
What You Need to Bring
The City & Guilds 2382-26 is an open-book exam. You must bring your own copy of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 — the current Amendment 4 version, published April 2026. Earlier editions of the book are not suitable for use in the exam, as the question paper is aligned to the current standard.
You do not need any other materials. Calculators are not required. The paper is 2 hours, multiple-choice throughout.
Why the 2382-26 Matters Now
Amendment 4 to BS 7671:2018 was published in April 2026 and is now the current version of the standard. The exam number has been updated accordingly — the current qualification is 2382-26. If you hold the earlier 2382-22, your certificate reflects a previous amendment. Both NICEIC and NAPIT are increasingly asking approved contractors to demonstrate current Amendment 4 competence at assessment. The 2382-26 is the clean, recognised route to demonstrating that.
