18th Edition Amendment 4 Course 2026 β€” Updated for BS 7671:2018+A4:2026

Amendment 4 to BS 7671 was published in April 2026. It’s now the current version of the wiring regulations β€” and the version the City & Guilds 2382-26 exam is based on. If you’re studying for the 18th Edition for the first time, or if you hold an earlier version of the qualification and need to demonstrate knowledge of the updated standard, this is the course.

MJ Electrical Training’s online 18th Edition course is fully updated for BS 7671:2018+A4:2026. You can work through the entire course or focus on the sections most relevant to you. There are no fixed sessions, no classroom days, and no set start date. Access is immediate on booking.

What Is Amendment 4 and Why Does It Matter?

BS 7671 β€” the IET Wiring Regulations β€” is updated periodically to reflect changes in technology, safety requirements and industry practice. Amendment 4:2026, published in April 2026, is the most recent update and is now the version in force across the UK.

For electricians, Amendment 4 matters for two reasons. First, the City & Guilds 2382-26 exam now tests candidates against the A4:2026 standard. A course or revision resource that predates Amendment 4 may contain content that no longer matches the current questions. Second, competent person schemes including NICEIC and NAPIT expect their members to demonstrate knowledge of the current standard β€” not a version that was superseded earlier this year.

Any course that doesn’t explicitly reference BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 should be treated with caution. MJ Electrical Training’s course has been fully updated throughout to reflect Amendment 4 and is the version all new enrolments access from the point of booking.

Two Ways to Study β€” One Standard

Because the course is fully self-paced, it serves two distinct groups of candidates equally well.

First-time candidates β€” electricians sitting the 2382-26 for the first time, apprentices completing their qualification portfolio, or those entering the trade β€” can work through the full course from start to finish. The estimated study time is 30–40 hours, spread however suits your working week. The course is built around the open-book exam format, teaching you how to navigate BS 7671 quickly and accurately rather than asking you to memorise regulation numbers.

Renewal and update candidates β€” qualified electricians who already hold the 18th Edition and need to bring their knowledge up to date for A4:2026 β€” can focus on the sections covering the amended content. There’s no requirement to work through material you already know well. The course is yours to use as a reference and a revision tool, in whatever depth is useful to you.

Both groups sit the same City & Guilds 2382-26 exam and receive the same qualification on passing.

Exam Options β€” Weekly Sittings, Home or Centre

The 2382-26 exam is open-book: two hours, 60 multiple-choice questions, with your copy of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 β€” the current orange book β€” permitted throughout. Results are typically available the same day.

Home webcam exam β€” Β£144.00 Inc VAT
Sit from home or any quiet, private space with a reliable internet connection. An invigilator monitors the session remotely. Weekly sittings available. Full technical requirements and joining instructions provided on booking confirmation.

Centre-based exam β€” Β£144.00 Inc VAT
Available weekly at centres across the UK β€” Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool in the North; Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Cambridge and Norwich in the Midlands; London, Southampton, Portsmouth, Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth in the South; Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland; Cardiff and Swansea in Wales. Full venue addresses and travel details provided on booking confirmation.

Both options deliver the same City & Guilds 2382-26 certificate. The choice is purely about what’s most practical for you.

Exam Only β€” For Qualified Electricians

If you hold existing UK electrical qualifications and are confident in your knowledge of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, the exam-only option allows you to sit the City & Guilds 2382-26 without enrolling in the full course.

Exam only: Β£196.00 Inc VAT

This option is available to UK-qualified electricians at Simon’s discretion. To apply, contact MJ Electrical Training directly. Once your qualifications have been confirmed, you’ll receive your personalised enrolment link by email. Home and centre-based sittings are available weekly.

This route is not open to all candidates β€” if you’re unsure whether your existing qualifications meet the criteria, get in touch and we’ll advise you directly.

The course is browser-based. Any modern laptop, desktop or tablet works. No software installation required.

A quiet space for the home exam (if applicable).
Two hours, uninterrupted, with your book to hand. Technical requirements confirmed at booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to resit the full 18th Edition exam if I already qualified before Amendment 4?

The 2382-26 exam now tests the BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 standard. If your existing qualification was based on an earlier version, you may need to demonstrate current knowledge for scheme renewals or employer requirements. The course covers the full updated standard, so renewal candidates can focus on the A4 changes specifically. If you’re unsure whether your current certification needs updating, check directly with your scheme provider β€” NICEIC or NAPIT will advise based on your membership status.

What’s the difference between the course + exam option and exam only?

The course + exam option at Β£288.00 Inc VAT gives you full access to the self-paced online course covering BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 in full, plus your 2382-26 exam registration. The exam-only option at Β£196.00 Inc VAT is for UK-qualified electricians who don’t need the course material and want to sit the assessment directly. Exam-only enrolment requires approval β€” contact us and we’ll confirm eligibility and send your enrolment link.

Can I start the course and sit the exam quickly if I have a deadline?

Yes. Access is immediate on booking and exams run weekly β€” both home and centre-based. Most candidates study for two to four weeks before booking their exam sitting, though those updating specifically for Amendment 4 with strong existing knowledge of BS 7671 may be ready sooner.

Is this the most up to date version of the 18th Edition course?

Yes. The MJ Electrical Training course is fully updated for BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, including all Amendment 4 changes. This is the version the 2382-26 exam currently tests and the standard currently in force across the UK.

Do I need the new orange book even if I already own BS 7671?

If your copy of BS 7671 predates Amendment 4:2026, it won’t reflect the current regulations and won’t be the correct permitted reference for the exam. You’ll need the BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 edition β€” the new orange book β€” to study effectively and to sit the assessment.
