18th Edition Wiring Regulations in London — BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 | City & Guilds 2382-26

London has more practising electricians than any other part of the UK — and more City & Guilds exam centres for the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations than anywhere else in the country. Whether you’re working in Isleworth, Harrow, Stratford, Watford, Enfield, Bromley, Croydon, or anywhere across the capital and its surrounding boroughs, the City & Guilds 2382-26 is available online and on your terms, with an exam centre almost certainly within easy reach.

The current standard is BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, updated by Amendment 4 in April 2026. If your certificate pre-dates that update — or if you’re sitting the 18th Edition for the first time — MJ Electrical Training delivers the full course 100% online, self-paced, with a City & Guilds exam available every single week.

London Exam Centres

London candidates have six City & Guilds exam centres to choose from across the capital and its outer boroughs. Select the venue that’s most convenient for where you’re based or working:

  • Isleworth — Isleworth Business Complex, St John’s Rd, Isleworth TW7 6NL — well placed for West London and the M4 corridor
  • Harrow — Kirkland House, Harrow — convenient for North West London and surrounding areas
  • Stratford — Boardman House, Broadway, London E15 1NT — ideal for East London, Essex borders and the Olympic Park area
  • Watford — St Albans Rd, Watford WD24 5BD — covering North London, Hertfordshire, and the M1 corridor
  • Enfield — Nicon House, Silver St, Enfield EN1 3EF — serving North and North East London
  • Bromley — Market Square, Bromley BR1 1NA — covering South East London and Kent borders
  • Croydon — Mitcham Rd, Croydon CR0 3AA — well placed for South London and the Surrey fringe

With this spread of venues, most London electricians can reach a centre in under 30 minutes. That said, the home-based exam remains popular with London candidates who’d rather avoid traffic and tubes entirely — it runs every week, is fully invigilated via webcam, and results come through typically the same day.

Why London Electricians Are Updating Now

London’s construction pipeline is one of the largest and most complex in Europe, and the demand for qualified electrical work across the capital reflects that at every level.

The Brent Cross Town regeneration — an £8 billion, 180-acre development delivering 6,700 new homes, 3 million sq ft of office space and a new town centre — is now in active delivery, with first residents having moved in during 2025 and multiple plots currently being energised. The Canada Water masterplan continues to transform the former Surrey Quays site into a new mixed-use urban quarter. The Clyde Gateway-style scale of regeneration at Stratford and the Olympic Park area means sustained electrical installation and maintenance demand across East London for years to come. Across the boroughs — from Enfield to Croydon, Watford to Bromley — housebuilders are active on new-build residential schemes, retrofit projects are accelerating under the Future Homes Standard, and commercial fit-outs continue at pace in the city’s office and hospitality sectors.

High-voltage electrical trades across London are operating at near-full capacity, according to recent industry analysis, as infrastructure projects including new cable tunnel networks beneath the capital ramp up. For electricians across every sector and borough, current certification is not a box-ticking exercise — it is a live requirement.

Both NICEIC and NAPIT require up-to-date 18th Edition knowledge as a condition of approved contractor and competent person scheme membership. Amendment 4, published April 2026, introduced important changes to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 across EV charging, battery storage and solar PV — all areas of active work for London electricians. A certificate that pre-dates those changes no longer reflects the current standard.

Who Typically Books From London

The range of candidates booking the 2382-26 from across London is wider than almost anywhere else in the UK:

  • Self-employed electricians across every London borough keeping their qualifications current for domestic and commercial work
  • Electrical contractors on large-scale regeneration and new-build sites — Brent Cross Town, Canada Water, Stratford, and dozens of smaller borough-level schemes
  • Maintenance electricians working in London’s vast commercial, retail, hospitality and public sector estates — from hotels and offices to schools and NHS facilities
  • Sole traders renewing ahead of NICEIC or NAPIT scheme assessments
  • Apprentices and recently qualified electricians completing the 18th Edition as their first professional qualification after gaining their Level 3
  • Electricians relocating to London from other parts of the UK who need their certification current before starting on site

How the Course Works

There are no fixed start dates and nothing to attend until you’re ready to sit the exam:

  1. Enrol online at mjelectricaltraining.co.uk — login details arrive by email and you can begin the same day
  2. Study at your own pace — modules cover the full BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 standard, with around 30–40 hours of self-study estimated
  3. Book your exam — choose a home-based sitting (any week, fully invigilated via webcam) or one of the six London-area centre-based venues
  4. Sit the open-book exam — 2 hours, 60 multiple-choice questions, with your BS 7671 wiring regulations book permitted throughout
  5. Receive your results — typically the same day, with your City & Guilds certificate to follow

The total price is £288.00 Inc VAT — course and exam fee together, nothing extra to pay.

Common Questions From London Candidates

Which exam centre should I choose? Pick whichever is most convenient for where you’re based or working that week. Isleworth for West London, Harrow for the north west, Stratford for the east, Watford for Hertfordshire borders, Enfield for the north, Bromley for the south east, Croydon for the south. Or skip the decision entirely and use the home-based option.

Does Amendment 4 mean I need to retake if I already hold an 18th Edition certificate? Your existing certificate stays valid, but if it pre-dates Amendment 4 (April 2026) it no longer covers the current version of BS 7671. For NICEIC and NAPIT renewals in particular, current knowledge of the amended standard is expected. The 2382-26 is the recognised route to demonstrating that.

How long does it take to go from enrolment to certificate? Most candidates complete the self-study in a few weeks around their working schedule. Once you pass the exam, results come through typically the same day. Four to six weeks from enrolment to having your certificate is realistic for most people.

Can I really sit the exam from home in London? Yes — the home-based exam runs every week, is fully invigilated via webcam to the same standard as a centre-based sitting, and is particularly popular with London candidates who prefer to avoid rush-hour travel to a venue. You’ll need a reliable internet connection, a webcam, a quiet room and your BS 7671 book.

Is the course valid for London Living Wage and public sector contract requirements? The City & Guilds 2382-26 is the nationally recognised 18th Edition qualification and is accepted as standard across all sectors including public sector and local authority contracts. It satisfies the certification requirements of NICEIC, NAPIT, and all major competent person schemes operating across London.
