18th Edition Wiring Regulations Course & Exam — BS 7671:2018+A4:2026

City & Guilds 2382-26 | 100% Online | UK-Wide | Home Exam or Centre-Based | £288.00 Inc VAT

The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification is the essential certification for electricians and electrical contractors working across the UK. MJ Electrical Training delivers the City & Guilds 2382-26 examination — the current, definitive qualification covering BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, the IET Wiring Regulations — entirely online, with weekly exam sittings and results typically the same day.

Whether you’re renewing an existing certificate, sitting the 18th Edition for the first time, or upgrading to ensure compliance with Amendment 4:2026, MJ Electrical Training provides everything you need in one place — course access and exam fee included in a single price, with no hidden costs.

What Is the 18th Edition?

The 18th Edition refers to BS 7671:2018 — the current edition of the IET Wiring Regulations, which sets out the requirements for electrical installations in the UK. It is the standard against which all domestic and commercial electrical work is assessed, and it underpins the competence requirements of every major approved contractor scheme in the country.

Amendment 4:2026, published in April 2026, is the most recent update to the standard. It is now in force, and the current City & Guilds examination — the 2382-26 — is based on this version. Candidates sitting the exam will need a copy of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 to use during the open-book paper.

If your existing certificate is based on an earlier version of the standard, or if you hold the 17th Edition qualification, it is no longer current. Both NICEIC and NAPIT require proof of current 18th Edition competence for approved contractor status — and Amendment 4:2026 is now the version they assess against.

How the Course Works

The course is delivered entirely online through MJ Electrical Training’s learning platform. Once you book, you receive immediate access and can begin studying straight away — there are no fixed start dates and no classes to attend.

The material is structured to follow the layout of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, chapter by chapter, and is written for practising electricians and contractors rather than academic study. The focus throughout is on understanding the standard well enough to navigate it quickly and confidently in an open-book exam.

Most candidates complete the course in two to four weeks alongside full-time work, though you can study faster or slower depending on your schedule — the platform remains accessible until you’re ready to sit.

How the Exam Works

The City & Guilds 2382-26 exam is:

  • Open-book — you use your own copy of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 throughout
  • 2 hours in duration
  • Multiple-choice format
  • Weekly sittings — available home-based or at one of our approved centres across the UK

Home-based exam — the most popular option. You sit from home at a time that suits you, fully invigilated via webcam. No travel, no time off work. Results typically the same day.

Centre-based exam — if you prefer to sit in a supervised venue, MJ Electrical Training has approved exam centres across the UK. See our location pages for your nearest centre.

Who Is This Course For?

The City & Guilds 2382-26 is relevant to a wide range of candidates:

  • Qualified electricians whose 18th Edition certificate needs renewing, or who need to demonstrate compliance with Amendment 4:2026 for their approving body assessment
  • Electrical contractors who require current BS 7671 certification to maintain or apply for NICEIC or NAPIT approved contractor status
  • Improvers and second-fix operatives building the qualifications needed to progress to an ECS Card
  • Those new to the trade who need a foundational understanding of the wiring regulations alongside a recognised qualification
  • Part P self-certifiers who need to keep their BS 7671 knowledge current

If your work involves electrical installation, inspection, testing or certification anywhere in the UK, the 18th Edition qualification is a baseline requirement.

Why Amendment 4:2026 Matters

Amendment 4 to BS 7671:2018 was published in April 2026 and is now in force. It is the current and most up-to-date version of the standard. The City & Guilds examination has been updated accordingly — the current exam number is 2382-26, not 2382-22, which is the old version and is no longer the qualification being awarded.

If you are booking an 18th Edition course or exam anywhere, confirm that the course covers BS 7671:2018**+A4:2026** and that the exam number is 2382-26. MJ Electrical Training delivers the current version only.
