18th Edition Course for Bournemouth Electricians
The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification is one of the most recognised electrical qualifications in the UK. It is commonly required by employers, contractors, agencies and site managers, and is suitable for electricians, electrical improvers, domestic installers, maintenance engineers and anyone working with or around electrical installations.
The course is based on BS 7671, the UK Wiring Regulations. The final City & Guilds exam is open book, but candidates still need to understand how the regulations are structured and how to find information quickly.
For Bournemouth candidates, the online e-learning format works particularly well. You can complete the course from home, at your own pace, then sit the final exam either from home where available or at a suitable exam centre.
Building Regulations Part P for Bournemouth Candidates
The Building Regulations Part P course is useful for candidates working in domestic electrical installation or those wanting a better understanding of electrical work in dwellings.
Part P relates to electrical safety in domestic properties and is particularly relevant for domestic installers, electricians working in houses and flats, and candidates who may later want to work towards competent person scheme registration.
For candidates in Bournemouth and Dorset, this course can be completed through online e-learning, with flexible exam options available.
Inspection and Testing Course
Inspection and Testing is an important area for electricians who want to progress beyond installation work and develop their knowledge of verification, testing procedures and certification.
MJ Electrical Training offers the City & Guilds 2391-52 Inspection and Testing course through online learning. Please note that final exam availability for this qualification is currently from Manchester or London only, so Bournemouth candidates should consider travel before booking this course.
For those who are ready to progress in the industry, Inspection and Testing can be a valuable qualification and is often expected for more advanced electrical roles.
Site Safety Courses for ECS and CSCS Routes
MJ Electrical Training also offers live online health and safety courses that can support site card applications.
The SPA Health & Safety Core Day is ECS approved and is commonly used by candidates who are applying for the ECS Labourer’s Card. This can be especially useful for people trying to get started in the electrical industry, including adult career changers and younger candidates who are struggling to secure an apprenticeship.
The IOSH Safety, Health & Environment for Construction Workers course can be used to support CSCS Green Labourer’s Card applications. This is useful for candidates who need access to construction sites or want to demonstrate basic health and safety awareness.
The SHEA Power EUSR course is aimed at candidates needing a safety passport for operational access in the utilities sector. This is particularly relevant for those working in power, utilities, infrastructure or related site environments.
All of these health and safety courses are delivered online via Microsoft Teams, making them accessible for Bournemouth candidates without the need to travel.
Exam Centre Options Near Bournemouth
While MJ Electrical Training does not currently list a dedicated Bournemouth exam centre, candidates in the area can usually access nearby exam centre options in Southampton and Portsmouth, depending on the course and exam type.
This gives Bournemouth candidates a practical South Coast option for sitting exams when a centre-based exam is preferred or required.
Southampton and Portsmouth are both accessible from Bournemouth by road and rail, making them suitable alternatives for candidates travelling from Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Ringwood and the surrounding area.
Travelling from Bournemouth to Southampton 🚆🚗
Southampton is one of the nearest major exam centre locations for Bournemouth candidates. It is accessible by train from Bournemouth railway station, with regular services running along the South Coast route.
For candidates travelling by car, the journey from Bournemouth to Southampton is usually via the A338, A31 and M27, depending on the exact starting point and traffic conditions. Candidates should allow extra time during busy periods, particularly around commuter times and holiday traffic.
Southampton can be a convenient choice for candidates from Bournemouth, Christchurch, Ringwood, New Milton, Lymington, Poole and parts of the New Forest.
Travelling from Bournemouth to Portsmouth 🚌🚆🚗
Portsmouth is another practical exam centre option for candidates on the South Coast. It may be suitable for those travelling from Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Southampton, Fareham, Havant and surrounding areas.
By train, candidates can usually travel from Bournemouth towards Southampton and then onward towards Portsmouth. Journey times can vary depending on connections, so candidates should check train times before booking an exam.
By car, Portsmouth is generally reached using the A31 and M27 corridor, continuing towards the Portsmouth area. As with any city centre or coastal route, candidates should allow time for traffic, parking and walking to the exam venue.
Why Bournemouth Candidates Choose MJ Electrical Training
MJ Electrical Training is a practical option for Bournemouth candidates because many courses are not tied to fixed classroom dates. Online learning allows you to study in your own time, revisit course material and prepare properly before taking the final exam.
This is particularly useful for working electricians, adult learners, shift workers, employers booking staff training and people trying to enter the electrical industry without taking unnecessary time away from work.
Our aim is to keep the training route clear. We do not believe candidates should be pushed into courses they do not need. Instead, we focus on recognised qualifications that support real progression, whether that is updating the 18th Edition, gaining domestic Building Regulations knowledge, working towards inspection and testing, or completing health and safety training for ECS or CSCS card routes.
