Electrical Training Courses in Cambridge

If you are based in Cambridge, Ely, Newmarket, Huntingdon, St Neots, Royston, Haverhill, Saffron Walden or the wider Cambridgeshire area and need electrical training, MJ Electrical Training offers flexible online options for a range of recognised electrical and site safety courses.

We no longer operate a dedicated Cambridge exam centre, but many of our most popular courses can still be completed without travelling to a centre. The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and Building Regulations Part P courses both have home exam options available, while our health and safety courses are delivered online using Microsoft Teams.

This makes MJ Electrical Training a practical option for candidates in Cambridge who want to complete training without spending unnecessary time travelling or attending fixed classroom dates.

Electrical Training for Cambridge Candidates ⚡

Cambridge and the surrounding areas have a strong demand for skilled trades, maintenance staff, electrical contractors, facilities engineers, construction workers and site-based operatives. Whether you are already working in the electrical industry, updating an existing qualification, or trying to build a route into site work, having the right qualifications can help support your next step.

MJ Electrical Training focuses on flexible, straightforward training. Many of our courses are delivered through online e-learning, allowing candidates to study at home, at work or around existing commitments. Where suitable, final exams can also be completed from home.

This is particularly useful for busy electricians, adult learners, maintenance engineers, employers booking staff training and candidates who need to fit training around work or family life.

The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification is one of the most recognised electrical qualifications in the UK. It is commonly required by employers, contractors, agencies and site managers, and is suitable for electricians, electrical improvers, domestic installers, maintenance engineers, facilities staff and those working with or around electrical installations.

The course is based on BS 7671, the UK Wiring Regulations. It helps candidates understand the structure, layout and application of the regulations used for electrical installations.

For Cambridge candidates, the online format is especially useful. You can complete the course through e-learning without attending a classroom. Once prepared, you can sit the final City & Guilds exam from home, subject to the correct booking and exam requirements.

The 18th Edition exam is open book, but good preparation is still important. Candidates need to understand how the Wiring Regulations are structured and how to locate information quickly during the exam.

Building Regulations Part P for Cambridge Candidates

The Building Regulations Part P course is useful for candidates involved in domestic electrical installation work or those who need a better understanding of electrical safety requirements in dwellings.

This course is often suitable for domestic installers, electricians working in houses and flats, maintenance staff and candidates who may later want to progress towards competent person scheme registration.

For candidates in Cambridge and Cambridgeshire, the key benefit is flexibility. The course can be completed through online e-learning, with the final exam available from home. This removes the need to travel to an exam centre and allows candidates to fit study around work and other commitments.

Health and Safety Courses Delivered Online by MS Teams 🖥️

MJ Electrical Training also provides health and safety courses that are delivered online using Microsoft Teams. These courses are popular with candidates who need site access, safety passport training, or support with ECS and CSCS card applications.

The SPA Health & Safety Core Day is ECS approved and is commonly used by candidates applying for the ECS Labourer’s Card. This can be a useful route for people trying to gain access to electrical site work, including adult career changers and younger candidates who are struggling to secure an apprenticeship.

The IOSH Safety, Health & Environment for Construction Workers course is used to support CSCS Green Labourer’s Card applications. It is suitable for candidates who need to demonstrate basic construction health and safety awareness.

The SHEA Power EUSR course is designed for candidates working in or around the utilities and power sectors. It is a recognised safety passport for operational access in the utilities industry and is delivered online via MS Teams.

Because these courses are delivered live online, Cambridge candidates can attend from home or work without needing to travel. You simply need a suitable device, internet connection, camera, microphone and photographic ID for the course.

No Cambridge Exam Centre Currently Available

MJ Electrical Training no longer has a dedicated exam centre in Cambridge. However, this does not stop Cambridge candidates from completing many of our courses.

The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and Building Regulations Part P courses both offer home exam options, meaning you can complete the course and final exam without needing to attend a centre.

Our health and safety courses are also delivered online by Microsoft Teams, so there is no requirement to travel for the SPA Health & Safety Core Day, SHEA Power or IOSH Safety, Health & Environment for Construction Workers course.

For candidates considering Inspection and Testing, please note that the City & Guilds 2391-52 final exam is currently available from Manchester or London only. This should be considered before booking.

Who Are These Courses Suitable For?

Our Cambridge electrical training options are suitable for a wide range of candidates. This includes practising electricians updating their qualifications, electrical improvers looking to strengthen their CV, domestic installers, facilities engineers, maintenance staff, construction workers, site operatives and employers booking staff training.

The 18th Edition is particularly useful for anyone working with electrical installations or looking to demonstrate knowledge of the current Wiring Regulations.

The Part P course is useful for those involved in domestic electrical work or looking to understand the Building Regulations relating to electrical safety in dwellings.

The health and safety courses are suitable for candidates who need to access construction, electrical, utilities or infrastructure sites, or who are applying for ECS or CSCS card routes.

Electrical Career Routes for Cambridge Learners

For anyone in Cambridge looking to become an electrician, it is important to understand that qualifications alone do not make someone fully qualified. The recognised route usually involves gaining work in the industry, building practical experience and working towards the correct NVQ route.

A good starting point for many new entrants is to complete suitable health and safety training, apply for an ECS Labourer’s Card, complete the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, and then start contacting local electrical contractors for labourer, mate or improver opportunities.

This route can work well for adult career changers who need to earn while learning. It can also help younger people who are struggling to secure an apprenticeship but still want to build experience in the trade.
