Please read the following - read time 2 minutes

Thanks for selecting one of our test centres to take your final City & Guilds examination.

You will have already been emailed confirmation of your examination, including the centre’s address. Should you have any questions before the exam, need to cancel or make any amendments, please get in touch with me directly.

Only contact the centre if you are having difficulty finding the venue on the day. The centres we work with are just examination centres and are not connected directly to MJ Electrical Training.

Before taking the examination, please take the time to read the following information; it’s a brief walkthrough on what will happen on exam day. If you still have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

On exam day...

Please ensure you arrive at the centre 15 minutes before your examination time; late arrivals may not be permitted to take their examination, resulting in a £65.00 + VAT rebooking fee.

You will be asked to verify your identity at the centre. Please ensure you have a driver’s license, passport, or valid ID card. If you are unsure, please get in touch with me before your examination date.

The centre representative will then issue you an A4 piece of paper called ‘Test Keycode’ and direct you to a computer where it will say, ‘Enter the keycode’. Please enter the keycode into the computer. Your examination will now download, and you will be asked to verify your name and date of birth are correct. Please select YES in the unlikely event that I have registered you incorrectly, e.g. your name is spelt slightly wrong or your date of birth is incorrect. I can change these afterwards.

You will then be asked to enter the PIN, which is also on the same A4 piece of paper. The next screen will take you to an examination guide. These are slides where you can select the next slide. This will give you an overview of what will happen during your exam.

When you are ready, please select ‘Start Test’. Your examination will now begin, and you will have the allotted time to take it. A timer will start counting down at the top of the screen.

Should you wish to finish the examination early, you can select finish test, or the examination will automatically end when the timer reaches ZERO.

When you finish the examination, I will be the only person able to give you your results. Please do not ask the centre for them. I email results every 1 – 2 hours throughout the day, and you are more than welcome to SMS or EMAIL me to let me know you have finished.

As outlined in our previous emails, you can use the following publications for your final examinations. These must be in their original format; digital copies are not permitted.

  • City & Guilds 2382-22 (18th Edition), you can use the 18th edition IET Wiring Regulations BS7671 A2 2022 (Brown Book) only.

  • City & Guilds 2393-10 (Part P Building Regulations), you can use the Electricians Guide to the Building Regulations updated to the BS7671 A2 2022.

  • City & Guilds 6072-51 (H&S In a Construction Environment) No additional publications are allowed in this examination.

Small annotations can be written in the publications, tabbed using Post-it notes or similar, and the text can be highlighted.

I would also recommend you take with you the following:

  • Non-programmable calculator (the basic type). You cannot use your mobile phone as a calculator for the exam.

  • Piece of paper to write notes on (this must be left at the centre after your exam)

  • A pencil or a pen

Good luck; if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me.

Kind Regards,
