Our SHEA Power course, also known as the Utility Safety, Health, and Environmental Awareness (Power) Scheme, is a comprehensive training programme developed in collaboration with industry experts. This course provides a systematic approach to health, safety, and environmental training, fully aligned with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.

The SHEA Power course is essential for all personnel in the power industry who need a CSCS card for site access, whether on a temporary or permanent basis. This includes:

Operatives working directly on-site.

Supervisors overseeing teams and operations.

Course Structure and Content

Delivered over one day by our qualified trainers, the SHEA Power course comprises eight modules:

Six core modules covering health, safety, and environmental legislation applicable across all utility sectors.

Two specialised modules focused on industry-specific practices and safety requirements for the power sector.

Certification and Registration

Upon successful completion of the course and passing the assessments, candidates will be registered with EUSR as SHEA Power certified. Certification is provided digitally and remains valid for three years. Linesworker

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work at height on a daily basis often involving multiple climbs and/or working on several sites and locations in a day.
  • Working to Wood safety rules, principally but not exclusively to DNO projects
  • Working off ladders and or conductor access platforms
  • Tower steelwork assembly and erection using 360 telehandlers, cranes and self-supporting derricks
  • Running out pilot bonds and new conductors under tension
  • Conductor replacement including full tension stringing.
  • Lead earthing parties, read and authorise safety documentation.

Experience

Essential:

  • Demonstrable proven experience of working from 132kV upto and including 400kV overhead lines and lattice towers
  • Working in the Construction Industry or in an outside environment
  • Operation of specialist OHL Plant and Equipment
  • Catenary Aerial Support System (CASS) and fibre optic wrap work
  • Temporary mast
  • Steel/Tower Erection using as self-supporting Derrick

Qualifications/Training

Essential:

  • Training courses for operation of plant and machinery.

Jointers Mate

As a Jointer’s Mate you will support Jointer (craftsman) with electrical installations. To undertake tasks as instructed by the Jointer (craftsman) on electricity networks from making LV services to HV connections and making sure scheduled works are completed safely, to specification, and in accordance with our customer requirements. You will also assist in coordination of onsite electrical works to ensure full compliance with Energetics Safety Rules, Procedures, and our NERS accreditation.

Your responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Jointer with domestic, industrial, and commercial electrical connections including LV and HV.
  • Assisting with cable testing.
  • Making off service terminations, mixing resin and general housekeeping of the company vehicle and work areas.
  • Supporting the completion of risk assessments and maintain safe working practices and maintaining accurate records.
  • Completing work to the correct Energetics and DNO specifications.
  • Correct use of tools, plant, and PPE.
  • Have a good understanding of plans and drawings and be able to review and understand work instructions prior to any work commencement.
  • Carry out works in line with established safety procedures.
  • Remain responsible for all aspects of Health&Safety and Environment in this role.
  • Maintain and develop competence levels and technical skills to ensure delivery to a high standard.
  • Attend training as and when required to maintain and enhance knowledge and application of systems and procedures.

Experience / Knowledge:

Essential:

  • Understanding of utility/ construction sector
  • Knowledge of Energetics Electric procedure and NERS legislation.
  • Identify industrial hazards and health and safety precautions.
  • Be Conversant with testing procedures.
  • Ability to apply Company design/planning procedures and requirements.
  • IT literacy and ability to use computer packages to area of work. Numerate and accurate when working with figures.
  • Ability to use Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, and Access Databases.
  • Organised, methodical approach to work with excellent time management skills

SHEA Power

Grounds Maintenance Operative

An exciting opportunity for a Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our team at the UK’s market leading FM company. Reporting to the Contracts Manager, you will be delivering exceptional grounds maintenance and winter services for our clients’ sites.

Main duties and responsibilities for this role include grass and hedge cutting, border maintenance, clearing leaves, spraying, litter picking, and using hand tools and powered horticultural machinery to ensure all sites and external areas are maintained to a high standard. You will need to deliver additional services during the winter, such as gritting, clearing snow and installing Christmas trees. Additionally, you will report to management with relevant information regarding site hazards, operate a range of vehicles, machinery and equipment in accordance with health and safety procedures, and undertake additional training as and when required. You will be required to work on Scottish Power energy network sites.

To succeed in this role, you must be passionate about working outdoors and be prepared to work across agile and flexible environments, as well as possessing a good understanding of smartphone technology. Previous grounds maintenance experience is desirable but not necessary, as is a PAI & PA6 spraying license. A full driving license is also preferable as some roles require use of company vehicles. You will report to the Contracts Manager.
